M. Jacob (“Jake”) Renick is a Managing Director in the New York office of NHB Advisors, Inc. where he provides clients with the benefit of over 40 years experience in public accounting and as a consultant specializing in corporate restructuring, bankruptcy and forensic accounting. He brings extraordinary experience to clients and their legal counsel, addressing their needs in an innovative and effective manner.
Mr. Renick has worked extensively in the restructuring of financially distressed entities, both in and out of bankruptcy, as well as with chapter 7 and 11 Trustees and creditor committees. He has been a court-appointed Examiner, Litigation and Liquidation Trustee, Plan Administrator, Fiduciary of Trusts for the benefit of creditors, and Receiver.
Forensic matters in which Jake Renick has been engaged range from assisting in the defense of a lender liability action, to actions against officers and directors for corporate waste. He has been called upon to apply his investigative and forensic accounting expertise in litigation and related matters, including asset discovery, tracing of funds, business investigations and the reconstruction of books and records.
Mr. Renick has been very active on numerous committees of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he chaired the Bankruptcy and Corporate Restructuring Committee and now serves as the Chair of the Litigation Services Committee. He served as an assistant professor of accounting and finance at the Lubin School of Business of Pace University, was a member of the faculty at the New York Institute of Finance, and as a pro-bono trainer with The Coalition for Consumer Bankruptcy Education, where he taught financial management to consumer debtors. Mr. Renick is a frequent contributor to business and professional publications and at numerous professional conferences and has conducted seminars on a variety of restructuring and bankruptcy-related issues to accounting and bankruptcy professionals, as well as business and lay groups.
Prior to joining NHB Advisors, he was the Director of Bankruptcy & Restructuring Services at Eisman Zucker Klein & Ruttenberg LLP, a Westchester County, NY-based accounting and consulting firm. Mr. Renick was also the founding member of M. J. Renick & Associates LLC, an advisory firm specializing in corporate restructuring, bankruptcy and forensic accounting. Previously, he was a Director in the corporate restructuring and bankruptcy group at Eisner LLP, and was a senior bankruptcy specialist in the business investigations group at Weiser LLP.
Jake Renick is a Certified Public Accountant, is certified in Financial Forensics and is a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor, a Certified Distressed Business Valuator and a Certified Fraud Examiner. He has been appointed to the Bankruptcy Mediation Panel for the Southern District of New York, is an NASD Arbitrator and a Receiver under part 36 of the New York Courts. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the New York Institute of Technology and a Masters of Business Administration from Baruch College.
