Managing Director
Hernan Serrano is a Managing Director with NHB Advisors, Inc. He has over twenty years of experience in the corporate recovery and reorganization arenas. He has worked as an advisor to law firms, investment banks, accounting firms, commercial banks, asset-based lenders, financial advisors and corporations. His client engagements include creditor rights, fiduciary services (including acting as a monitor, trustee, receiver and examiner), Chapter 11 transactions, corporate reorganizations, corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions and corporate restructuring.
Mr. Serrano is experienced in many phases of U.S. and foreign bankruptcy services. He has assisted in the collection of assets, and in the development, negotiation and implementation of numerous plans of reorganization. He has also served as a crisis manager and corporate recovery officer, and has handled employee and management issues as well as the valuation and liquidation of inventory, real estate and other assets.
Mr. Serrano has served as a trustee and receiver in numerous cases, including actions brought by the Federal Trade Commission. He is known for his expertise in assessing situations quickly and running companies productively and efficiently. Some of the FTC matters on which he has worked include Better Budget Financial Services, Inc. (a debt relief business), Micom Corporation (a telecommunications company) and Five Star Automotive (a membership-based auto club).
Mr. Serrano’s experience includes such industries as telecommunications, retail (individual and international chains), car dealerships, food industry, manufacturing, transportation, gas and oil and chemicals. Some of the companies in which he has been involved include: Hancock Fabrics, Everyday Convenience Stores, Mystic Tank Lines, Sterling Optical, and Roadhouse Grill.
Formerly with such firms as FTI and Mahoney Cohen & Company, Mr. Serrano has over 20 years experience in the recovery practice since receiving his MBA from Adelphi University. He is a member and the immediate Past President of the Long Island Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, and is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Certified Management Association and New York State Society of Accountants.
